ISO 22000 was published by the International Organization for Standardization in September 2005 in an effort to create a food safety standard that can be applied across the whole supply chain.  The standard itself includes elements from ISO:9001 and HACCP guidelines to create a truly international food safety standard.

Organizations who wish to demonstrate their ability to control food safety hazards in order to consistently provide safe end products as well as enhance customer satisfaction through the effective control of food safety hazards should gain ISO 22000 certification.

ISO 22000 may apply to all types of organizations within the food chain ranging from feed producers, primary producers through food manufacturers, transport and storage operators and subcontractors to retail and food service outlets – together with inter-related organizations such as producers of equipment, packaging material, cleaning agents, additives and ingredients.

Food safety is related to the presence of and levels of food-borne hazards in food at the point of consumption (intake by the consumer). As food safety hazards may be introduced at any stage of the food chain, adequate control throughout the food chain is essential. Thus, food safety is a joint responsibility that is principally assured through the combined efforts of all the parties participating in the food chain.

The first step in achieving independent third party ISO certification is to contact IQS and submit an application. Upon acceptance of our proposal and payment of fees, IQS will arrange for a qualified auditor to conduct the audit. Your Food Safety Program will be evaluated for compliance against applicable code, standard or legislative requirement. You will be given a report and providing the Food Safety Program meets the requirements your organisation will be awarded the certificate and the right to display IQS ISO:22000 Certification Mark in accordance with Terms and Conditions of ISO Certification.

After the initial audit IQS will continue to service your ISO certification needs. With certification in place, your organisation will have the ability to convey that the most stringent third party certification requirements are being met.
