Since 1993, Prime Safe (formerly the Victorian Meat Authority) has been responsible for the management of the regulatory functions controlling the operations of the State's meat industry.
Throughout Victoria the regulatory arrangement covers all red meat and chicken meat activities including, abattoirs, boning rooms, small goods production, retail and wholesale meat preparation and meat transport. The framework also extends to the production of edible tallow, rendered products and the processing of pet meat and pet food.
